Here comes Thursday again and that means it’s time for Thursday Doors. Hurrah! A few days ago I met Donna from Wind Kisses at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. I did a very brave thing–I didn’t take my camera along, only my phone, and vowed not to stop constantly to take photos, just enjoy the time with a friend. It went better than I expected although I admit to taking a few shots with my phone. But we not only saw the beauty of the desert but had an tasty lunch and lots of good friend time.
The three insect houses have sections that look like doors although every opening actually is a door when it’s in an insect house. I had to include this quote because it made me laugh and can be so true:
“Insect life was so loud that when you parked the car and got out it sounded as if you had suddenly tuned into a radio frequency from another planet.”
― David Samuels

“We don’t give a damn to the insects on our Earth, but if we could find even a single insect on Mars, the whole world would cherish it like crazy!”
― Mehmet Murat ildan

“If it were illegal to kill insects, I’d be in the clink for three million years.”
― Foster Kinn, Freedom’s Rush II: More Tales from the Biker and the Beast

“Every being devotes and dedicates itself to some innate purpose. Single cells, microbes, plants, insects, animals—every being makes its own unique contribution.”
― Julie J. Morley, Future Sacred: The Connected Creativity of Nature
Nice little bug homes!
I’d live in one of these if I were a bug.
I think I might agree!
Makes me wish I had some carpentry skills. I do have some bug houses around the garden but none as nice as those. Very apt quotes too.
These are rather nice ones. Glad you enjoyed the quotes too, Sue. I’d have to buy an insect house not make one.
Nice door, but an even better reminder that every creature has a purpose on Earth. Good thought for the day. Every creature. Peace.
Thanks, Clay.
Nature friendly doors
Definitely.
How cool!!!! I’ve never seen or heard of insect houses!
I first saw some in Europe some years ago. I think they’re really interesting but I always wonder what sort of insects you get, maybe not all desirable.
I love these doors, Janet. Insects are so important. The quote about Mars is spot on!
Yeah, that quote made me chuckle because it’s so true.
Cute houses. Some great quotes!
Thanks, Julie. Both houses and quotes made create the post enjoyable.

Oh my gosh, that Mars thing!! So true!!
I know. That’s true about many things and not just on Mars. 🙂

Good point!!
Those are so cool. There’s always a balance between getting memories of a fun time vs having the fun time, LOL

Well put, Jodie. Next time I’ll have my camera but it was fun just to relax a bit rather than always looking for photos and ignoring the friend I came to see.
Loved the little doors, and the quotes were perfect too.
Thanks, Madison. A lot of the quotes about insects are quite long and not very interesting but these three seemed to hit the spot.
I love those Insect houses! I’ve wanted one for sometime but, never get around to getting one. I wonder do they really get used? Those look so pristine and new.
I really like those quotes, but hope we never find any alien insects or anything!
I think they do get used but I don’t know how new these are. Alien insects are the stuff of sci-fi movies.
They are!!
There’s been a big increase in insect houses lately. I keep seeing them everywhere.
I think there are lots more in Europe than in the US. At least I haven’t seen many here.
[…] Thursday Doors…insect doors — This, that and the other thing […]
ok. I admit…I wish I did have my camera, but I loved more just catching up in this beautiful place. I did a brave thing yesterday too. I did not fly out of there like the Tasmanian devil when we saw the snake. lol. The snakes are always to tranquil at the garden. I guess since it IS their stomping (slivering) grounds. Thanks for meeting me.
I wouldn’t have minded having my camera but it was good discipline for me…and lots of fun as well. We can do cameras another time. You did great with the snake. (That’s one shot I’m sorry I missed.). If you’d screamed a/o zoomed off, I’d have been quite surprised. 😉
I love those houses with all those circles. And great quotes too! When my parents were alive and lived in Phoenix, I’m sure we visited that garden at least once. (K)
It’s an excellent garden and has reciprocity with many gardens throughout the U.S.
What a wonderful idea to provide housing for insects! We’ll miss them when they’re gone and we are all starving and disease ridden.
Hopefully it won’t come to that.
These are so cute! Would love one in my garden too!
I agree.
The big Carpenter Bees back here love houses like those you have displayed. My husband made some dwellings like these for the bees, but not quite as fancy as the ones you photographed.
I bet his look nice though and the bees probably don’t care if they live in something fancy or not. 🙂
Very cute doors, I am taking inspiration for my garden.
What fun! I hope yours turn out well (or whatever you decide to do)

I will work through winter and making it ready for the Spring.
Sounds like a good project for winter.
The winter where I live only lasts a month or two, I better work fast.
🙂 We live in Arizona so we don’t really have what I would call winter.
The same here in California. No change of seasons.
Love it. The quotes too. I have 5 insect houses, and they are all full. Took a couple of years to plant enough of insect attractive plants in my garden . Now it is their paradise. In Sweden they are popular, those houses – glad you have them too!
I’ve only seen them in parks or gardens but I’m sure some people have them in their yards too.
Hopefully!
I love these insect houses and their many doors! 🙂
They are fun and these are particularly attractive, I think.
I love these! My #2 Daughter has one next to her house.
That’s cool, Marian. 😁
