For this week’s Lens-Artists Challenge, Sofia’s theme is “Looking back.” I’m looking back at both history and my family with a copy of a photo of my great-great grandfather, John Keehn (Kuhn), originally from Denburg, Germany. He was in Company F-8 Regiment Indiana Volunteer Cavalry in the Civil War. Maybe that’s where I get my love of horses. 😉
Wild animals often look back to be sure nothing is sneaking up on them. But they can’t escape a telephoto!
I wonder what’s ruffling his feathers?
If you have an itch, you have to look back and scratch it!
Just checking.
Not worried yet but keeping my options open.
Leaving Yosemite some years ago, I looked back and was rewarded by this rather special view.

Wonderful take on the prompt janet. So many great photos 🙂
Thanks very much, Brian. ❤️. I appreciate your regular visits and comments.
Your photos are fabulous. I love your birds and animals. They posed so nicely for you. the picture of Yosemite ought to be on its website and in its media. I’m sure it doesn’t look like that too often!
That day in Yosemite was so amazing I had a hard time believing I got so lucky. I thought we’d never get out of the park as I kept asking our daughter to pull over so I could take another photo.
LOL I had a day in Yosemite like that with a friend who is an artist. It was a lot of fun to see what she thought would make a good picture.
Love the diversity, Janet ☺️❣️
Thanks, Jo. Gave me a chance to scroll though a LOT of photos. 🙂
That Yosemite view is splendid!
Your great great-grandfather was very dashing 🙂 I love old photos.
Thanks, Sofia. The Yosemite view was one of those that squeezes the heart with amazement and joy. I love old photos as well but they’re more special when they have relatives.
These are all great photos for the challenge, but you could have stopped at the first one. 🙂 Great piece of family and country history in one photo!
Thanks, Frank. It’s a special photo for me. When I was young, I saw the original at a relative’s home and he was kind enough to have a copy made for me.
What a very fabulous photo of your gt-gt grandfather. Such a mythic quality about it. A fine looking back gallery.
Thanks very much, Tish. A relative had this copy of gt-gt-gr when I was young and I really cherish it.
A wonderful approach to the challenge Janet, loved every image and its message. Your G-G-GF is a very handsome guy, one can definitely imagine him leading a charge. And your closing image is glorious. Well done!
Much appreciated, Tina. I love the photo and that last morning in Yosemite was awesome in the true sense of the word. Such a blessing to be there to see it!
I didn’t know you had German origins. Love that photo!
Your approach with this challenge is fun, Janet. I especially love the photos of the deer and Yosemite. I agree with Marsha. Not too make get to see that view.
German on both sides of my family, Donna, and that photo is one of my treasures.
I thought it was nice of that buck to pose for me. 🙂 That morning in Yosemite was also a treasure, the kind that makes your heart feel as if joy has squeezed it.
Yes. Great way to put it.
I loved our life in Germany, so always interested to hear of those from that culture.
Wonderful family history, and images to go with this challenge, Janet.
Thanks very much, Deborah.
Ah interesting take on the prompt! Lovely pictures 😀
Thanks! People were already doing the history angle so I wanted to go with something else.

Love these looking-back photos.
Glad you enjoyed both the family photo and the other photos, Amy.
Great images for the LA theme this week, Janet! Wow on that looking back toward Yosemite image–that is an incredible perspective and shot! Aren’t you happy your turned around?
Very happy, Terri. Also happy there was a spot there to pull out!
GREAT photos and comments. Love the Civil War photo. Wayyyy back.
Hi, John. Thanks very much. Always good to have you stop by. I just wanted to do something different and I had fun searching through my photo files for good examples.
You have met the challenge admirably.
Thanks!
Looking back definitely isn’t always a bad thing, perfectly proven by your beautiful images, Janet!
Your great-great grandfather looks as if he could’ve been the German staring contest champion!
In those days, it seem to be the thing to look very stern whenever you had your picture taken. Maybe he was, but I don’t really know. Glad you enjoyed the photos. I had fun finding them.
We still have to strike that pose when we have passport or driver’s license photos taken… 😀
Here too. No smiles these days.
I love all the photos in this series, but the last one at Yosemite is my favourite & AWESOME! 🤩
Thanks so much, Connie! I really appreciate that comment and your visit. 🥰

I enjoyed looking back at that very rewarding view in Yosemite – wow the layers
But each photo flowed so well and love that family heritage opening photo
Thanks very much, Yvette. It’s good to see you back and of course I’m happy you liked the photos.
Thanks Janet – it is nice to be back although I predict my blogging mode will be sporadic for a while –
But I guess some of us just have different seasons
Nice looking back nature shots, Janet. The first pic is most interesting, and precious! Thank you!
That one’s special to me as well, Resa. 🙂
Understood! xx
Love your take on this one, Janet! Good looking man and as said before – the Yosemite shot is gorgeous!
