Hurrah! It’s Thursday again and thus time for Thursday Doors, hosted by blogger and author, Dan Antion.
But before I get started, has anyone else noticed that the “Visit” spot in the Reader seems to have vanished, so if I want to actually go to the blog site, which is what I like to do, I have to click on the blog title, then click again to be taken to the site? NOT a fan of this. Hopefully it’s not an “improvement” but something waiting to be fixed.
Anyhoo…back to the doors. We just got back from a long family and, for us, 39th anniversary visit to California, where we stayed in a lovely AirBnB. It was behind a small, one-story house and much the size I imagine a “tiny house” to be. Immediately to the beach side, (the beach was about 3 1/2 blocks away), stood much larger, fancier homes. On the way down the hill as I walked towards our daughter’s place, I snapped photo of these three rather grand doors.

Love the first image, especially the guard Griffins. Yes I noticed the visit thingy had gone. I always try to visit peoples blog sites. Think it it used to be like this a few years ago.
Guard griffins are alway a plus. 😉. In. Later comment, Jo mentioned this: “If you click on the 3 dots next to the blog title you get a drop down with Visit Blog option. From there you can comment directly into the blog.” I’ll try that next time.
Thanks for the comment.

Wow! Grand hardly seems enough. I love that first door! Looking at those stairs, all I can think is, it must be nice not to have to worry about snow and freezing rain.
And I cropped out some of the stairs as well. 😳. Yes, they’d not be much fun if things got icy!
I rarely use Reader because it seems dodgy at best. I’m not surprised there’s some prob with it. Fwiw, I use Feedly to follow blogs. It’s more reliable, not infallible, but much better.
Those doors are amazingly majestic. I don’t know if I could live behind them, but I’m willing to go upscale and try.
You’re such a trooper, Ally! 🥰🤣. I’ve not heard of Feedly but Jo said in a later comment that there’s a way to still visit. They just put out somewhere it can’t be seen. Sigh. I’ll try that.
Basic Feedly is free. It is a rss feed that allows you to control who you see and when. You create folders, a blessing if you like to be organized about who you follow.
Thanks, Ally.
Very swanky! I’ve noticed the same thing too.
Definitely swanky but attractive.
Just FYI, in a later comment Jo mentioned “If you click on the 3 dots next to the blog title you get a drop down with Visit Blog option. From there you can comment directly into the blog.” I’ll try that and see what happens.
Good to know. Thanks
Nice ones, nice fences too
Have to have fences that look just as good. 😉
A great collection, Janet. First is my fav.
Thanks, Frank. That area has an interesting mix of small homes and large, fancier ones, some of that latter being newer. I imagine if you sell your small house, you’d make a bundle, especially as it’s California, and then the buyer would put up a mansion.
Nice doors! 🤗🩷 If you click on the 3 dots next to the blog title you get a drop down with Visit Blog option. From there you can comment directly into the blog. Pain, isn’t it? 🤔🩵
Glad you liked the doors, Jo. Thanks for the tip. I’ll give it a try.
Grand, indeed! Beautiful photos of these doors, Janet.
Thanks, Amy. The houses were rather grand as well. 😉
These are very grand doors. Where in California did you visit? And, I had not noticed the missing VISIT option, going to look now. Every day something new, right?
We were in Redondo Beach. As Jo mentioned, if you click on the three dots to the right of the blog title, at least that’s where it is on my iPad, a drop-down menu appears and you can click on “visit” and it will take you to the blog. Inconvenient.
I saw this. Hmm.
Wow spectacular doors. Our neighbor had one of his gargoyles stolen but the perpetrator tripped on the curb and dropped it. It broke and he just left it there in the street. Loser.
How irritating, although I had to laugh while shaking my head. People are just doing everything these days.
Right? Luckily video camera on the neighbor across the street’s house caught it all.
Marvellous doors, love the Griffins
The griffins and the doors are a great combination.
They certainly are
Good doors. I noticed the change in the reader too. The software engineering people at WP seem to be a very restless bunch with time hanging heavy on their hands.
That’s a good way of putting it. They also seem to be more and more focused on businesses rather than individual bloggers, at least from what I see in my emails from them.
That is the impression that I get too.
Fabulous doors Janet. I just right click in the title and click on “open in new tab” I suppose I could use the three button thing I guess but I am used to using the mouse and right click thing 😉
Thanks, Brian. Sounds like another possibility but why did they take away the “visit” button in the first place? That’s the real question. Things just change with no notification, at least that I’ve ever received.
I am sure it’s more for mobile users not for PC people like me with Jetpack taking over
I normally go on from my laptop, but sometimes in the morning when I’m on my iPad for my Norwegian lessons, I access from there. Who knows why they do what they do? I certainly don’t.
Thanks for the tips on the three dots, bloggers. Love these doors.
Glad you liked the doors, Rebecca. I was thankful for the tips too.
Oh wow I love the first one! Fantastic door and I would love to have a look inside 😝
Thanks! It would be so much fun to see inside any of these.
Couldn’t agree more!!!
Those are grand doors, Janet.
Thanks for capturing them.
So, WP is always fixing things that aren’t broken.
I don’t always like the changes, but unless they get LOTS of complaints, they just continue on.
And it’s difficult to find where to complain about them anyway.
Such grand doors!
Glad you liked them, Brenda.
