We’ve all agreed that we’d like to see every dull, boring, grey/gray power boxes painted something else and I found several I really liked while walking in downtown Aurora, Illinois with my friend who was willing to patiently wait while I took photos. 🙂 I especially like this first one because the colors are so arresting. Anyone else get a bit of a “Matrix” vibe?

I was loving the Art Deco look of this pair.

And finally here’s another power box for your Thursday enjoyment. Here we are already in December. How did that happen??

Thursday Doors is hosted as always by the Door Keeper in Chief, Dan the Doorman AKA Dan the author. Thanks, Dan.

Yesterday we walked along the river walk in Aurora, Illinois and that’s where we are today, on the lookout for wildlife. Usually I see heron in the park but these attractive birds were sheltering beneath an overpass.

We saw this sign warning canoeists to stop but I’m not sure how they were going to get to accomplish that before going through the chute as the water was running right along and the sign was right at the place they were supposed to avoid. But we didn’t see any canoe wreckage so I guess it was alright. 🙂

Jo’s walking and Becky’s back with her wonderful square challenge. Life is good. I’m back from my vacation with lots of photos and stories to share, so let’s start walking.

This trip was all about seeing friends but there was a lot of scenery too, autumn colors that I’d been craving. On the 2 1/2 day drive, I’d passed through New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri before crossing the state line into Illinois. Especially in Missouri I drove through hundreds of miles of thousands of trees in their festive bronzes, oranges, reds, and a few luminous yellows. The day after I arrived, my friend and I drove to downtown Aurora, Illinois for coffee and friend time, starting at Endiro Coffee. Although I’m mostly a tea person and my coffee drinks are mochas or cappuccinos, Endiro serves what they call African Coffee (or tea): Easy on the espresso or black tea, lots of steamed milk and light and sweet masala spice. Once when our younger daughter and I were there, she had the African coffee which I tried and loved. That’s what I had this time.

Downtown Aurora has a rather nice river walk surrounded by lots of old, repurposed buildings. I love that they haven’t been torn down but are used just as they were.

I got my autumn color fix too.

It was a propitious start to my two-and-a-half week visit!

I should be on my last, shorter day heading into Illinois and I’m excited to not only see friends but get to practice with praise team again and sing on Sunday. Can’t wait!!! Trips call for snapshots, so here’s a snapshot of a purple door from Aurora, Illinois, coincidentally where I’ll be staying with dear friends. (Only thing better would have been if my husband could have come along.) The message takes on special significance after the year+ we’ve been through and through which many are still navigating.

for Thursday Doors and Live in Colour: purple

Not a very exciting update today. Started out with heavy fog but after that mostly more rain. I’d forgotten how much spray big trucks throw up and how hard that makes it to see the road. Not only that, you can’t use cruise control when the roads are wet. Sigh. Naturally I not only saw plenty of water but so much green that it’s hard to fathom after a year+ in Arizona. Amazing! Made it to my motel early enough to pull out my laptop and visit some blogs, so that was nice. Also managed to be not quite done with my book-on-CD again, so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow for the ending, just as I did this morning with yesterday’s book. Today’s drive took me from Amarillo, Texas, through part of Oklahoma, and into Missouri. The really good news is that gas has been quite inexpensive: $2.57/gallon this morning and still under $3/gallon elsewhere. Makes driving a lot more fun. 🙂 Happy Thursday!
