I like to walk down to this lake, walk around it, and reflect on this, that, and the other thing but the lake does its own reflecting as well. Pick up sticks, anyone?

It also provides a nice bit of bokeh.

Up close and personal with a butterfly? Alien? Somethings look different when you get this close, don’t they?

If you’re a mathaphobe, you’ll be sad to know that geometry is everywhere in nature. 🙂 But as the Scots might say, “Dinna fash”, there’ll be no test. Just enjoy.

Ah, water drops!

This is my sort of abandoned home.

In the mid-seventies the Sanford-Townsend Band came out with a hit song whose title works perfectly for our first week in Wyoming’s Bighorns: “Smoke from a distant fire.” Normally we have clear views of the mountains farther back but this year smoke from distant fires made them either disappear or turned them hazy. It’s impossible to know which fires caused this, and there were lots of them burning, but considering smoke has been reaching the east coast, it’s no wonder it was worse here.

A shot of the ducks I inadvertently flushed when walking towards the lake would normally look like the photo on the left. This year, however, it looked like the one on the right. There was no smell of smoke except for one day, but it made itself seen throughout week one.

Didn’t seem to bother the horses’ making the morning trip to the corral from the night pasture.

Su from Zimmerbitch nominated me to participate in this challenge. One photo, no explanation needed. One nomination: Tish from Writer on the Edge. “Requirements”: Post one travel photo each day for ten days, no explanation needed. Or as many days as you feel like. If you participate, pingback to my post. Nominate others if desired; repeat as desired. Enjoy.

Wherever the neighborhood where we currently live, my neighborhood of heart is here in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming. I was fortunate enough to visit for three weeks this summer.

The neighborhood.

Some of the neighbors.

Thursday I’m heading to Philadelphia (by van, not by boat), to take a load of things to our younger daughter. I’m rather good at packing, but even I can’t figure out a way to get a small couch into my second bag with Southwest, hence the van and the drive. 🙂 Between today and Thursday, I work and have lots to do around the house, so I won’t have time to blog. But I wanted to leave you with a little something, as Winnie-the-Pooh might say, to make you happy while I’m gone and this is it, the view from the lake just a short distance from the cabin. Enjoy and see you next week!

I think it’s difficult to really show the scope and impact of a meadow filled with wildflowers in a photo. So many of them are small and there’s so much grass. But I’ve done my best to show the plethora of the wildflowers carpeting the mountain meadows this spring. Take my word for it, it was stunning.

We’ve often seen Wyoming brown and I’ve seen it partly green but it, like so many other places in the country, had much rain this spring. That meant that conditions were ripe for wildflowers.  I loved these shooting stars and I think you can see how wet it was!
