I had to add a bit of light to this photo of a French door because the position and intensity of the sun made it difficult to see the wonderful details. Then I needed to get closer so you could really appreciate them. Have to admit that I’m sorry I missed my yearly trip to France last year. Maybe this year. I’d love to get some more doors to share. In the meanwhile, enjoy this one. And don’t forget to have a bit of fun with today’s date, 1.21.21, which is a palindrome, meaning it reads the same forwards and backwards. Just thought you’d like to know. Getting my math geek on for you, Dan.

Day three of one travel photo a day for ten days, no explanation necessary. I was nominated by Su at Zimmerbitch. One nomination: Dries at de Wets Wild, who shares the beauties of South Africa with us every day. If he doesn’t care to accept, visit the blog anyway. You won’t regret it. Dries, if you do participate, would you link/pingback to my blog/post?

Shelter-in place, self-isolation, and quarantine are all for the body, but mind is free to roam the world, so tighten your seatbelts and put your tray tables in their upright and locked positions. We’re on our way to the Franche-Comté. See that? I made a little rhyme.

As all Thursday Doors peeps know, gates count as doors and that’s the way I’m going today. Enjoy.

Every so often, we got a day where it wasn’t actively raining and we seized the moment to enjoy it to the fullest. While my s-i-l took one of the dogs for a long run, I (who am a fast-twitch muscle/sprinter/100-200m “distance” runner), took a nice walk to find a memorial in the forest.

When it’s been raining, you start seeing fungus and although there were many that had dried out due to the long drought, some survived, while others were beginning to thrive.

Bundle a number of these branches together and you have a broom of the sort used before you could just go buy one and still used by some.

When I arrived in France mid-September, the Franche-Comté was once again dry with the possibility water rationing lurking. However, our prayers for rain were answered, as it rained almost every day of the three weeks I was there as well as many of the days since I returned at the beginning of October. As you can imagine, we relished every bit of sunshine and every walk when it wasn’t actually raining.

We often look for new places to walk the dogs and on this day, we parked on the side of the road to follow an uphill path.

When it gets wet in the forest, mushrooms/fungi abound. This year provided a bumper crop!

Luxeuil-les-Bains has a plethora of attractions, including les bains, the thermal baths that were enjoyed by Celts and Romans. I can show you two great bakeries, a coffee and tea shop for relaxation, a number of good restaurants (and several not so good), beautiful churches, an batch of sarcophagi, a bountiful farmers market on Saturday morning…and doors.

I’ve photographed quite a few doors over the last visits, so hopefully I’m not repeating myself (at least too much.) These three were almost next door to each other, making it easy for me.

You get some great tiles at no additional charge. Maybe we should have come back at night.
