When the frost melts…

To arrive when frost adorns everything is to experience a joy that squeezes my heart.

Everything made by human hands looks terrible under magnification–crude, rough, and asymmetrical. But in nature every bit of life is lovely. And the more magnification we use, the more details are brought out, perfectly formed, like endless sets of boxes within boxes
― Roman Vishniac

I don’t believe that first sentence. Human hands makes some incredible things. But I firmly believe the rest of the quote and these are the details I love to see, record, and share. Patti challenges us to share details this week, so without further ado, here are mine.

It’s been much too long and even though I have to work today, I had to stop by and say hello and share a few photos from a recent walk in the park.  On this morning, not too many days ago, I saw a panorama of frost as I pulled out of the garage.  That made getting to the park as soon as possible much more urgent, as the moment the sun hits the frost, it tends to disappear and, although plants with drops on them make for wonderful photos, ’tis the season for frosty beauty!  Of all the mornings to sleep in just a little and not rush out the door.

It was still plenty cold when I arrived.  The geese were flocking, so to speak, on the river which, as I’ve said before, at this time of year resembles an avian runway at a local airport.  The noise level can get quite loud as groups of geese get ready to take off or land.  I wonder why they haven’t gone south to warmer climates, but bird brain has never been a compliment, has it?  🙂

A few weeks ago, I went for my usual walk in the park at dawn. Something easier to do now than it is during the summer. The temperature had dipped down below the freezing point, so before the sun hit the frosted plants, these were the views I found.  It was stunning to look out to see a prairie covered with frost.  These were taken on the same day as the on in my Six Word Saturday post on diamonds and feathers.
