The first leaf fell today,
	lacking even grace of color,
to lie quiescent on the sidewalk
	‘til wind-blown travel claimed it.
Soon millions more will throw themselves
	to willing death,
flaming brightly before reduced to
crackling beneath feet in futile protest.

Days grow shorter, nights stretch longer,
nights where passion once flamed brightly,
now passing also into death,
	unwilling on my part,
	kamikaze-like on yours.

The fire that now burns
	devours all the love
	and leaves not even embers
that soft breath could coax back to life.

Autumn's harbingers
Lie dying before my eyes
Love once green now dead

Nature waiting

Spring

River shakes icy cloak
Flings it joyously aside
Anticipating

Earth waits patiently
Watered by the melting snow
Ready for new growth

“How could I have known how much it meant for her to see a patch of blue sky, to observe the flying seagulls, or how important that chestnut tree was to her, when she had never shown an interest in nature before.  But once she felt like a caged bird, how she longed for it.  Even just the thought of the open air gave her comfort, but she kept all these feelings to herself.”
–Otto Frank

Lightning slashes clouds
Grey skies hemorrhage water
Lights blossom in homes

Snow silently blankets earth
I sip calming tea
