Almost four and a half years ago, I started writing a weekly hundred-word story based on a photo for Friday Fictioneers.  I kept at it for over three years and only stopped because the group had grown so much that I couldn’t read all the other stories, not that it was a requirement, but because I felt I should if I expected everyone else to read mine. This was my first hundred words.

He looks out…
sees space,
sees opportunity;
feels freedom.

She looks out…
sees space,
sees emptiness;
feels loneliness.

He looks down…
sees crops,
sees growth;
feels anticipation.

She looks down…
sees dryness,
sees obstacles;
feels discouragement.

He looks inward…
sees challenge,
sees work;
feels tall.

She looks inward…
sees questions,
sees work;
feels uncertain.

He looks toward her…
sees beauty
sees courage;
feels tenderness.

She looks toward him…
sees caring,
sees fortitude;
feels  resolution.

They look outward…
see opportunity,
see hardship;
feel purpose.

They look together…
see the sunrise,
see each other;
feel love.

Bill suggested re-posting this poem which was my first entry for Friday Fictioneers, where each week authors post a 100-word story based on a photo prompt.  This prompt showed a ruined house in the middle of nowhere.  This was what I wrote over two years ago.

 Perspective

He looks out…

She looks out…

feels loneliness.

He looks down…
sees crops,
sees growth;
feels anticipation.

She looks down…
sees dryness,
sees obstacles;
feels discouragement.

He looks inward…
sees challenge,
sees work;
feels tall.

She looks inward…
sees questions,
sees work;
feels uncertain.

He looks toward her…
sees beauty
sees courage;
feels tenderness.

She looks toward him…
sees caring,
sees fortitude;
feels  resolution.

They look outward…
see opportunity,
see hardship;
feel purpose.

They look together…
see the sunrise,
see each other;
feel love.

Perspective

“Grandma, how come you can’t take your teeth out at night like Eddie’s Oma?”

“Grandma, how come your hair’s white?”

“Grandma, why do we pray “Halloween be Thy name?”

“Grandma, why does he have earrings in his lip?”

“Grandma, can I get a puppy?”

“Grandma, why can’t we have purple grass?

“Grandma, don’t run so fast. I can’t keep up!”

“Grandma, you smell nice.”

“Grandma, I’ll be five tomorrow. How old are you?”
“I’m sixty, honey.”
“Grandma! How many is sixty? That’s OLD!!”
“It all depends on your perspective, Riley.”
“Do I have ‘spective, Grandma?”
“You will, dear; you will.”

(“Oma” is a word for “grandmother” in German and Dutch.)

(For another look at “Perspective”, take a look at my post on this week’s WordPress Photo Challenge.)

I’m not sure why the WordPress gremlins are at work, but the little blue link critter doesn’t want to show up in my post. But you can click on the boring link below to find links to the other stories.

Change your perspective and things look different.  One perspective may be true; the other, false.  This is true in life as well as in photos, although photos are (hopefully) easier to manipulate.  When you first meet someone, they appear one way.  When you get to know them, you may need to change your perspective.  When you view something from close up, you may miss the bigger picture; from far away, you miss the details.

Here are two sets of photos that illustrate the deception possible in perspective, at least the photographic type.

We’ve been watching each stage of the Tour de France on TV, with my laptop providing the input. When the angle of the laptop is a certain way, you get a completely different look at the cyclists, one I hope you enjoy. If you’re not a cycling fan, think of it as art, perhaps Monet doing the Tour, or modern art. 🙂
