Ah, the dangers of scheduling before I have the post finished. I meant to include a few details about this dome, which you might be pardoned for believing was in a European church. However, it’s in the Anthropologie store in Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia. But imagine this in your home! It was in a home.

Anthropologie’s store on Rittenhouse Square was originally the Fell-Van Rensselaer House. Sarah Drexel Fell (yes, of that Drexel Family) was widowed and then married Alexander Van Rensselaer. The house was completed in 1898. The original Tiffany dome and a ceiling with portraits of Italian Dodges, as well as fireplaces and some details remain.

The rest of the store is very elegant as well.

The Lens-Artists Photo Challenge was created to fill a bit of the emptiness left when WordPress discontinued the Weekly Photo Challenge.  This week’s word is “blue” and this is my offering from the Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

From Patti’s site:

For this week’s challenge, share your interpretation of blue—the color, the mood, or the time of day.  It’s up to you!

  • In your post, include a link to this challenge.
  • Use the tag “Lens-Artists” in your post.  If you use a different tag, other bloggers won’t find your post in the Reader and that would be a shame.  Also keep in mind that you should use fewer than 15 tags for your post or it won’t appear in the Reader.  For more information on how to tag, click here.
  • Ann-Christine will post the next challenge on Saturday, August 11th.

After admiring the front of the church and the stained glass, we turn to leave.

Walking down the aisle, we have time to take pleasure in the beauty of the window, organ, and statuary as well as the arched ceiling.

L’église means “the church” and this one’s ogive windows are beautiful.  Nothing more need be said, except that it can be difficult to get a good stained glass photo with a camera.  I was happy to see how these turned out.

Welcome to 2016, a new year for all of us!  In Philadelphia at Rittenhouse Square, Anthropologie runs a store that, incredibly, used to be someone’s home.  Can you imagine having this circle of stained glass in the roof of your home?  I haven’t bought anything there, but we often go just to wallow in the beauty of the space itself and the decorating is gorgeous as well.

May your 2016 be filled with blessings and beauty!

Victoria for dVerse sets this challenge:

“For today’s prompt, I invite you to pen a poem that uses something related to an art technique as a metaphor to deliver your message. And I double-dog dare-you to include a photo of your own work in whatever medium you play with.”

Here’s my response.

Making of each day
Imagine, cut, heat, bend, solder
Colors of your life

I took a class in stained glass many years ago and came away with this one creation.  These days my art is in photography and words, but this one piece still makes me happy.

The choices for this week’s prompt, “Curves”, were multitudinous, so I succumbed to the urge to share two very different pictures of curves. Enjoy!
