Since I inadvertently posted my Friday flowers post on Friday New Zealand time, I’ll take this opportunity to share a wonderful Veteran’s Day display, the Healing Field of Honor, in Naperville. I was fortunate because, due to the weather, the flags weren’t taken down the day after Veteran’s Day and now I can share it with you as well.
When I arrived in France mid-September, the Franche-Comté was once again dry with the possibility water rationing lurking. However, our prayers for rain were answered, as it rained almost every day of the three weeks I was there as well as many of the days since I returned at the beginning of October. As you can imagine, we relished every bit of sunshine and every walk when it wasn’t actually raining.
We often look for new places to walk the dogs and on this day, we parked on the side of the road to follow an uphill path.
When it gets wet in the forest, mushrooms/fungi abound. This year provided a bumper crop!
(more…)Autumn, or fall, depending upon where you live, is a time of endings…the end of summer, the end of days that start early and end late with golden sunshine, the end of trees burgeoning with leaves, the end of the bright, hot colors of summer, the end of the foliage of (most) plants. During this time, I cherish the last glimpses of colors and rich beauty before the austere beauty of winter reveals itself. Sometimes the petals of flowers or the outer parts of plants now look less than pristine, like faded beauties still bedecking themselves as they did when young. But peer inside and you can still see amazing intricacy and charm, just as you might when getting to know better the aforementioned dowagers.
