What I was growing up and first driving, you could pull up to a gas station and tell the person who came to your window to “Fill it up with regular.” Now if you say that, you’re talking to yourself!
If you’re driving between Phoenix and Flagstaff, Arizona on Highway 17, you can fill your electric car at this what? Energy station? Charging station? Outlet store? While it may become commonplace at some point, it’s a bit of an oddball now.
Sign of the future. George Jetson would have loved it. 🙂 I’m so ‘mature’ I remember when they not only filled it up but washed the windows, checked the fluids, and tires. Now, that’s a blast from the past for sure.
Oh my, that was sooo long ago I’d almost forgotten it EVER happened.
I know, me, too, Pauline.

Not only that, but gas wars. I remember gas being $.25 and when I had my VW Super Beetle in the 70’s, it wasn’t much more than that. Makes me “mature” as well, Judy, but like fine, we’ve gotten better with age, but aren’t yet past our “turns to vinegar” date. 🙂

My first car was a pea green Beetle, and I remember $.25 gas as well. There are some days my husband might have a comment about the vinegar. 🙂
Bright yellow Super Beetle I named Sundance. 🙂
They look like something from Star Wars…
They do. I wonder how many electric cars we’ll eventually have or if someone will invent some other method.
The future is a complete mystery.
I remember my uncle worked at a gas station and he pumped the gas, cleaned the windows, fixed tires, changed the oil and we got free maps too!
🙂 Good memories, Laura.

how about china, silverware, glasses, and baby chicks when you filled up?
Must be a Southern thing, Randy. 🙂

I grew up in the northeast, so if anything it was a northeast gimmick to attract folks to fill up at their station or brand. Baby chicks were given away free with each fill-up at Easter.
Didn’t know you grew up there, Randy. I don’t recall any of these things in the Midwest or West, but who knows? Maybe I just don’t remember.
No baby chicks 🙂
Great find. We are behind you with electric cars, we will catch up at some stage
I don’t know that there are that many electric cars, Raewyn, and I’ve never seen a charging station this size before. Once in awhile, I see a single place to recharge.

Big odd ball for me they are. Although I do know about these through internet, they are still a far future technology for my country.
I haven’t seen any like these before, Hammad. It will be interesting to see whether they take hold and grow or whether something else will come along. In countries where electricity is not always easy to get or is very expensive, who knows?
janet
I wonder how long it takes to recharge, if it’s as slow as my laptop I’d need overnight accommodation!
I wonder the same thing. There were places to eat nearby, but I don’t remember whether there was a hotel or not. 🙂

All together, now: Ohhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I take it that’s you energizing yourself, Allan. 🙂
janet
Something like that.

Oooooohhhhhhhmmmmmmm. 🙂
I live in Oregon and we still say “Fill it up with regular”. We are one of two states that the gas is pumped. We also have an electric gas station for your cars too. So I have the old and new all in one place. GREAT photos this week. 😀
I didn’t know that about Oregon, Cee. Which state is the other (or is it New Jersey as I mentioned)? Glad you enjoyed the photos.
janet
It is us and New Jersey. 😀
