COB Photo Challenge 2016, Week 21…Metra oddballs

From our Chicago suburb, the preferred method of visiting the city, at least for me, is to take the Metra train into Union Station, then walk to my destination.  That’s the easy part.  Parking is the difficult part.  People who commute regularly compete for passes to park at the station.  Outside of that, parking anywhere nearby is limited to between 2-4 hours, not nearly enough to get into the city, do something, and get back.  If you arrive at the right time (after the morning rush), there are a number of $2-for-the-day spots.  I prefer having my husband drop me off and, as this sign shows, during these hours, that’s what works.  I enjoy the humor of the sign.  The shot was taken out the window as we went by, hence the fuzziness.  But it IS an oddball photo, so…

Taking a photo of another train passing our train resulted in a rather cool oddball as well.

well I have seen the kiss and ride signs in DC and they always make us smile. Also, the between trains photo is so interesting – feels surreal….

  2. Over here nearly every station has a kiss and ride area, as cars are always fighting for space and taxi drivers also claimed their rights of a prominent place near the platforms. Sort of compromise.

  3. Laura says:

    That’s a great sign!

  4. Dan Antion says:

That’s a very cool sign, and a great description. I love the photo of the passing train.. It’s always fun to see how the camera captures those interesting few seconds.

    • It was interesting to read that other places have the same signs, or the same wording at any rate. The photo of the passing train is fun because of the colors and the sense of motion, but also the things barely seen or not seen clearly.

  5. bythebriny says:

Cute sign, love light and motion of the other train passing.

  6. Cee Neuner says:

Okay where did you get that sign. It’s great. 😀

    • There are signs like this outside the train station in Naperville, in places where you can’t park during the busy hours but can the rest of the time. Sounds like there are similar signs other place, but no matter where they are, they’re cool.

  7. Allan G. Smorra says:

Great photo, Janet. Back in the ’80s there was a “zone” in Sausalito where enterprising ladies “worked” the afternoon Commuter Trade. My wife named them “Hitch Hookers”.

  8. jan says:

I don’t remember the kiss and ride signs from my time in Chicago! Very sweet.
