OK, Joanne. Up until recently, my mom (and for a time, my dad) participated in the Senior Olympics (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senior_Olympics), my mom setting records for her age group in javelin and discus all the time. One year I was visiting when they were going to a track meet and my dad urged me to compete in the sprints, something I’d done through college. I did and in the fun events such as softball throw, agility, etc. Between that and another time I competed, I came away with a number of gold medals, a few of which are featured here with my track shoes, shoes I might add that I got after these two events, planning to compete more, and have never used. π
That is really cool!! I’m actually familiar with the Senior Games, although I’ve never attended an event. You have the hardware to show for your efforts!! π
Here’s what I replied to Joanne. Awww, thanks, Sylvia. My mom’s a better athlete for a woman than my dad is for a man, but he’s always delighted in her prowess. She’s the champ of the field events, I’m a sprinter.
I have no sport skills but I appreciate those who do. It’s such a discipline.
Bravo to you and your parents for your wins. I’m sure there were many
hours of practice. Bravo!!! ππ
There were for my parents, but not for me. I hadn’t planned to participate until my dad mentioned it and was just going to watch and cheer them on. I was sore for a few days afterwards, that’s for sure!!

Sad to think about the athletes who have to train for another year. Nice photo.

My mom amassed so many gold medals that she gave lots of them to a teacher who used them as rewards for her students. π
Awww – that’s really nice!
True, but at least they don’t have to wait four more years!
That’s true.
Come on Janet, we need to know more! Please!?!?

A lovely image – great colours and quite intriguing. Congratulations on getting involved, and there’s still time to use those shoes π
Thanks, Debbie. I was stumped for quite awhile and then realized I actually had (Senior) Olympic medals to photograph. π
Thanks for sharing your personal story!
Impressive! Wonderful stories to share, Janet.
Thanks, Amy. I was just glad to have something to use for the prompt/challenge! π
