When you start taking photos, you begin to see things differently, to see potential photos everywhere.  Bring your focus close to you and you’ll find a plethora of beautiful photos waiting to be recorded.  This week’s Phoneography Challenge (or, to give it all its gravitas, the Phoneography and Non-SLR Digital Devices Photo Challenge) is “Macro“, just the place for those photos.  I looked in my glass and in my mixing bowl and came up with the following pictures.  Any editing was done on Picasa 3, my newest toy.

I love lemon in my water.

Molasses on sugar

Molasses on sugar..and sugar on molasses

  1. What a clever idea. I especially like the molasses on sugar pic. It looks very clandestine.

  2. Your images show the mystery and wonder of macro. The first one has movement and makes me think about the waves at the beach. Nicely conceived and done. Happy Photo Challenge.

How awesome – the detail with the lemon is terrific.

    looks like garnets 🙂

  5. I agree, the more you take photos, the more easily it is to see the world differently. Excellent images… and with a phone? Fantastic creativity.

    • Good morning, Shane. Nice to see you on the cold, rainy Chicago day. Even though there’s much I dislike about Apple, their phones have wonderful cameras as does the iPad (with which I took photos before I got my phone.) The best thing is that using the phone makes it so easy, even though there are shots I can’t get that I could if I ever took the time to figure out all the bells and whistles on my Nikon.

      • Hi Janet,

I’ts dull and grey here today too, but at least the weather is spring-like.

I have an Android phone and use it often, but I am very jealous of the iPhone camera. My boss recently purchased an Olo Clip which has a macro and wide angle lens attachment for his iPhone. Pretty cool stuff.

Great images again. Have a super day!

      • Ooooo, I’ll have to take a look at that! Samsung is supposed to have a great phone, too. This was our first smartphone and I admit that except for the monthly cost, I love it.

  6. Bubbles and liquids always are intriguing – but we rarely spend time noticing. Nice

  7. Angeline M says:

Those are great photos! I think I especially like that last one.

  8. Brilliant photos. There is beauty in everything – even where it is the mundane. 😀

  9. Amy says:

    I’m in awe, Janet!

  10. Magical otherworldly landscapes. Thanks for the name of your new toy 🙂

Ok lady… you rocked this challenge! Those are all super! I have no favorite since they each have such appealing qualities. Very cool. Picasa 3 huh?

    • Thanks, Meghan!! Picasa 3…and it’s free! 🙂 The photos were all taken with my iPhone 5S which has a mighty nice camera. I was so glad the molasses weren’t really going anywhere and I could take my time getting the phone. As for the bubbles, they intrigue me and I’m always thinking, “But this one might be even better.” 🙂 And although I love doing macro with flowers, I wanted to go away from that this week.

I’m still waiting to get a new phone before I invest in lenses for it. I would so much like a macro lens. But you know, I have this great tablet, I need to take that around the yard and see how it does with macros. I just feel so silly pointing it at something!

      • Before we got our iPhones (our first non-flip-open phones), I took pictures with my iPad for several years. When I was at the Chihuly installation in Phoenix, I took quite a few shots with my iPad as well as with my camera and I hear lots of people behind me commenting on what great pictures it took, as they could see what i was getting. So as they saying goes, “Just do it!” Get those phots.

    Now, THOSE are macros !

  13. Love this.. so bright and sparkly.. spring like!

  14. Interesting and creative captures. I would have no idea what these were photo’s of if you didn’t say.

  15. Macro shots are so much fun. They uncover entirely new worlds that were always in plain sight, but not quite in focus. This fresh perspective gives you a whole different appreciation for those everyday objects.

  16. Emilio Pasquale says:

Of the two, I prefer the lemon in water. The molasses on sugar reminds me of blood. Both are amazing shots! I have GOT TO start noticing details! Shoot some macro!

    • You can learn to do it. Just start looking at things right around you, but on the macro scale. Then take some shots and see what you get. It’s fun and really changes the way you look at things.
