The biggest challenge of this challenge is…which cloud photos do I choose? I love clouds and I have so many photos. I decided upon one with color and one with all white clouds, but the latter with both low-lying and high flying clouds, near clouds and far clouds. The first words that came to mind was from my high school days, when Joni Mitchell sang about clouds and love. There are, however, as many quotes about clouds as there are ways of looking at them, so I chose a few more for my and your enjoyment.
Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere,
I’ve looked at clouds that way.
But now they only block the sun,
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done,
But clouds got in my way.
I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It’s cloud’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know clouds at all.
~Joni Mitchell
“Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.”
― Rabindranath Tagore, Stray Birds
“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.”
― John Lubbock, The Use Of Life
“Well, those clouds up there look like the map of the British Honduras on the Caribbean… That cloud up there looks a little like the profile of Thomas Eakins, the famous painter and sculptor… And that group of clouds over there gives me the impression of the stoning of Stephen… I can see the apostle Paul standing there to one side…”
“Uh huh… That’s very good… What do you see in the clouds, Charlie Brown?”
“Well, I was going to say I saw a ducky and a horsie, but I changed my mind!”
― Charles M. Schulz, The Complete Peanuts, Vol. 5: 1959-1960
Both beautiful shots, but the San Francisco Bay photo looks good enough to be a gorgeous poster. 🙂
Thanks very much, Judy. It was lovely that day, that’s for sure.

I enjoy your cloud pictures because I am writing a book about skies and looking up. http://www.Wyswoods.Wordpress.com
Glad you enjoyed them and good luck with the book.

I’ve always liked clouds of all sorts and storms. Your photos are terrific Janet. 🙂
I remember some of the first photos I took with my iPad. I was heading home and there was a line of dark clouds approaching. I pulled into the driveway, leaped from the van, and whipped out my iPad. I felt foolish standing in the middle of the street with that enormous thing, but I got some good photos. Never worried about looking foolish after that and often heard people behind me commenting on what good photos the iPad took. 🙂
Excellent !
Thanks. Much appreciated.

One of my favorite songs. We were in the top of some restaurant on a visit to SF and sitting high enough we could see the fog clouds crawl up to greet us. A wonderful vision.
Sounds lovely, Janet.
Beautiful cloud photos and the poem is lovely. You are right big question is which photo to choose.
I took the easy choice: use both. But I had to leave out many others just as good, at least to me. 😉

I think of Joni Mitchell too, when I think of clouds. I have a lot of photos of clouds. It is hard to chose which one to use. Love your photos.
I know what you mean about choosing, Raewyn. So many cloud photos, so little space. 🙂

Superb shot of SF Bay! No doubt Joni M. would be as impressed as I am. 🙂
What a sweet thing to say, Tom! Thanks very much.

They both are great Janet. Oh, I too love clouds – black, white, blue any kind. 🙂
Saw some great shots on the way home from work last night, but there was nowhere to stop for a good shot. 😦 But there are always more.
