Welcome to November! For some of us, that means colder weather, leaves changing color a/o falling, and the anticipation of winter. For others, summer is just around the corner. But whatever the weather, the Photo Challenge keeps on going, this week with the theme of “Peek”, showing just enough of a subject to pique the interested of the viewer.
This summer I crouched on the hillside in Wyoming just up from the corral, taking photos of two bull moose head-high in the willows, contentedly chomping away. A peek now and then was just about all I could capture. And that’s not a lot of bull (although this one was.) 🙂
Oh how wonderful to see one in the wild, but two! I’ve only seen two Moose in the wild. Both times I was as giddy as a school girl on Christmas Eve!
We used to see lots of them every year while at the cabin: bulls, mamas, and calves. The last few years, I haven’t seen any, but they were back this year. I also had the unusual (and somewhat scary) experience of seeing one not far from the trail where I was riding. My horse wanted no part of it, but he (the moose) was far enough away that we could get by without risking him charging us, although he watched the entire time and we moved right along. 🙂

I read something last year or the year before about there being a decline in Moose. I hope not! I’d like them to continue to have a good, healthy presence for generations to come.
Me, too!
Peek-a-moose! Great 🙂
WP didn’t allow comments again or give any way to see others work 😦
Thanks, Carol. Pingbacks just came up, so you should be good to link now. It’s annoying, that’s for sure.
janet
I re connected and finally got a pingback. Annoying indeed! Thanks
What a great shot!
Thanks, Aggie. I’m glad you like it.

A great capture, Janet!
Thanks, Sandra. Sometimes I don’t have my camera with me when I see these guys, but this day (and some after), they were just munching away for hours, completely ignoring everything going on around them.
Wow, that’s a great shot, Janet.
Thanks, Lucile. I sat there for some time watching them and taking shots, trying to catch as much of them as possible. It was hard with the willows so high! 🙂
You are definitely persistent, Janet. And it paid off. 🙂
Such a beautiful scene! No matter the current season, it has a real timeless quality to it. I sure wish I could bask in that sunshine, too.
It certainly was a beautiful day that day, Hannah. But to me, almost every day there is beautiful!
janet
Haha – great peak!
Glad you enjoyed it, A-C. 🙂
janet
love your humor (not a lot of bull) – lol – and was just telling another blogger about a moose comic I had seen – the moose was at the base of the tent and the caption read: The day after hunting season ends…” get it?
anyhow, the nose up is almost like he is posing for you
He was eating and probably ripping some willows up to better get them in his mouth. Both of them were at it for quite some time.
I get the hunting humor. I think the animals do know when the season is over, but of course that’s when you’ll see one–the day after hunting is done. Glad you enjoyed my humor, too.
janet
yeah – of course it would work that way…. lol
have a nice day
That is wonderful, Janet. Thank you for the smile. 🙂
Happy to help you smile, Judy.
I have never seen a moose in person. Thanks for sharing.
I love seeing them, Dan, and I’m glad to share. It’s always good to see one from a safe distance, though. 🙂

Hi Janet,
Is that a Pekingese moose or just a plain old chocolate moose?
Great shot!
Randy
Ha! Good ones, Randy. As the French might say, it’s an a-moose-a bouche. 🙂
janet
🙂 Dear Janet,
what a suprising and pretty peek!
Have a very HAPPY evening 🙂
Good morning, Claudia. Glad you peeked in. Have a great Thursday.
What a fabulous photo 🙂
Thanks very much. Thank goodness for a telephoto lens. I would normally crop the shot to have the head bigger, but then it would be more than a peek, wouldn’t it? 🙂
janet
The shot is perfect as it is. Cropping would have lost the feeling of the moment
brian
Thanks, Brian. 🙂 That’s what I thought. Cropping will work for some other time, but not as well for this one.
Enjoying the last warmth of sun.
And head-deep in food.
janet
So beautiful!
Thanks, Roda.
janet
Chomping away to heart’s content, basking in the sun – this moose is living the life! ☺
Very true, Anita. Probably two of the things a bull moose likes most. Happy Thursday!
janet
Great shot; and perfect for the challenge 🙂
I’m glad you thought so, Su. 🙂
janet
That’s one big animal.
He was. They’re amazingly agile for such large animals, too.
janet
Wow amazing sight! 🙂 I’ve never seen a moose up that close.
Glad I could show you one, Nicole. We take them for granted in Wyoming but are always happy to see them.
janet
Wow! I have been anywhere to see a moose yet, but they look like they’d be an amazing sight to see!!
They really are, Amy. They’re not beautiful, but they’re certainly majestic!
janet
Always hoping to see one in the wild myself. You are quite lucky indeed. Very nice capture!!
We’re fortunate to see them fairly often when in the mountains of Wyoming. I’m glad you enjoyed seeing this one.
janet
LOL on the bull Janet – love the way he’s just sticking his head out. They are notoriously difficult to capture
Each of the two put their heads up like this regularly, pulling up the willows, I imagine, or helping to get the food down or both. We’re blessed to see them so often in Wyoming and in places where we can get photos of them.

Great entry for the challenge, Janet. You captured him perfectly. Moose have such a large nose and the horns are magnificent. Thanks for sharing another moose photo for those who would never have an opportunity to see them … well maybe, in a zoo.
Izzy 😎
I’m glad you enjoyed them, Issy. Thanks, as always, for visiting and commenting.
