We don’t have them here, but I see lots when I’m visiting in southern California, which means I’ll be seeing some soon as I’m heading there at the end of next week.
Now this is what ideally could be a portrait of an alien from a far distant place…see the little guy in the very center? I have only seen one Bird of Paradise flower ever, when on a writers’ retreat in Oaxaca state in Mexico. I had a photo of it on my desktop for years. That place where we stayed had a gorgeous garden including not only the Bird of Paradise, but also Smoke Bush and Lantana. I live in Northern Ohio, but have a huge Smoke Bush of my own which grew profusely since I first met its Mexican cousin…and Lantana, which I also wasn’t familiar with also is available here and the last time I had it it was spectacular.
Here’s an aside I am impressed with: I had forgotten the name of Lantana, so on a whim I entered the search term “multi color flower …” and guess what popped up at the top of the search results? Yep, Lantana.. hmmm, some coincidence, right? LOL (kinda spooky)
I can see him in there. 🙂 We lived in South Euclid on the east side of Cleveland for 28+ years (my husband’s from Ashtabula), but I’d not see Lantana until we moved to Arizona where it’s quite common. I really like it. I looked up Smoke Bush and it’s lovely.
Our older daughter got married in Baja and we saw lots of gorgeous plants and flowers there! The story about your search for Lantana is amazing. 🙂 And sometimes you can look and look and not find anything. Who knows that ways of the internet??? 🙂
Glad you saw the little alien in there… and the Lantana…that was really strange, the flower was exactly as I was picturing it in my mind. I didn’t have it this year, but two years ago I had several plants of Lantana and they were lovely. I don’t know if it was coincidence, or synchronicity, but quite remarkable when the search engine read my mind. 🙂
In Germany they are known only by their Latin / botanical name: Strelizia. According to my dictionary, you’re right for English but it also mentions the Latin name.
The bird of paradise flower, so lovely.
I agree. I love seeing them and when I go to southern California again soon I’ll see lots. 🙂
Do you not see them in Arizona?
No, at least I haven’t seen any.
maybe it is just too dry there.
That’s what I was thinking.
Perfect!
I really like these flowers. Hope you have a great weekend, Judy.
I love these flowers!
They’re lovely, that’s for sure.
😊🌸💮
Fascinating. 🙂
They’re certainly unique, aren’t they, but lovely.
So beautiful! I haven’t seen a bird of paradise for a long while.

It looks perfect! 🧡💙
Merci, madame. I really like these flowers and I’m sure I’ll be seeing some more quite soon. 🙂
So perfectly crowned, and so perfectly gold!
Thanks, Emma. Appreciate the visit and comment.

This is such a beautiful capture – love the verticals and the gold
Thanks, Yvette. I think it’s hard to get a bad shot of these beauties.
🙂
I love strelizia blossoms 😊
Ah, you must know the actual name. I only know them as Birds of Paradise. 🙂
